In 2010 . Finn Mooney . only 10 years old at the time . had been through 13 heart surgeries. The same year . the Doernbecher Freestyle Project partnered a Nike designer with Mooney to create a shoe to represent his story. Stitches on the Nike Swoosh mimic Mooneys own stitches . while the heart graphics and words thump thump reflect Mooneys perseverance and strength. The Dunk High SB Retro Doernbecher rerelease in April 2019 celebrates 15 years of the projects initiative created to combat serious illness in children.
